Crocheting isn’t just

for grandmas anymore.

My story

For as long as I can remember I have always been making something. When I was little, I was obsessed with making toys and clothes. I wanted to make my own so that they were personalized. I didn’t want to have a stuffed animal that everyone else had, I wanted one that was completely unique so I tried sewing. After many years and many fights with my sewing machine, I put it away and thought I should just give up on the idea of making my own stuffed animals.

Several years later I got a set of crochet hooks for Christmas from my brother-in-law. The time quickly came for new year’s resolutions and I thought that I might as well try to learn how to crochet. After looking up countless Youtube videos I finally started to get the hang of it.  Ever since then, I have been obsessed with crocheting. I started with amigurumi (stuffed animals) which some say is the hardest to learn, but for me, it was fulfilling the dream that I had always had. I finally had the opportunity to make my own stuffed animals at twenty years old.

Made with care

Everything I make is created with diligence and love. I care about the things I make and the people who receive them. I view these pieces as a testament to who I am and a small reflection of who my Creator is. I view creativity as a form of worship to the Lord. I love Psalm 139: 13-14, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” I hope through my work people can see even just a glimpse of how thoughtfully they themselves were made and that would spark something in them to get to know their Creator a little more.

Of course, I am human and therefore am going to make mistakes. There are several times that I will catch a missed stitch while creating an animal and have to frog (undo) most of the project in order to fix it. I  hold my works to this high standard because I want them to last through whatever memory-making adventure they get taken on. Whether it is one of my signature bumble bees in a dorm room or a custom lovey in the arms of a toddler I pray that each one goes through all of the ups and downs that come with life and provide some comfort to their human. I also hope that they serve as a reminder of how lovingly and wonderfully you were made.
